Overview

Vasopressin is an endogenous peptide hormone involved in water retention, blood pressure regulation, and vasoconstriction. It is used clinically in certain critical care settings and is studied for cardiovascular and renal physiology.

How it works

Acts at V1 receptors on vascular smooth muscle to cause vasoconstriction and at V2 receptors in renal collecting ducts to increase water reabsorption. It also has central roles in osmoregulation, stress response, and social behaviour.
