Selank
Overview
Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide analogue of the endogenous immunomodulatory peptide tuftsin, developed by the Russian Institute of Molecular Genetics. It has been studied extensively in Russia as an anxiolytic and nootropic and is approved in Russia for the treatment of generalised anxiety disorder.
How it works
Modulates the expression of IL-6 and affects the metabolism of serotonin and dopamine in the brain. Inhibits enkephalin-degrading enzymes, prolonging the effects of endogenous opioid peptides. Enhances BDNF expression in the hippocampus, supporting neuroplasticity and memory consolidation. Does not bind directly to GABA receptors, avoiding dependence associated with benzodiazepines.
Primary uses
- Anxiety reduction
- Stress relief
- Cognitive enhancement
- Memory improvement
- Mood stabilisation
- Neuroprotection
What to expect
Based on reported user experiences and available research, here is a general timeline of effects:
Days 1–7
- Anxiolytic effects are typically noticeable within the first few doses
- Serotonin and dopamine modulation begins immediately
- No sedation or dependency risk unlike benzodiazepines
Days 7–28
- BDNF expression in the hippocampus is increasing — memory and learning improving
- Stress resilience and mood stabilisation are well established
- Cognitive performance and focus improvements are commonly reported
Days 28–999
- Neuroprotective and neuroplasticity benefits are accumulating
- Continued anxiety and stress management with sustained use
- Consider cycling — typically used in 2-4 week cycles
Storage and preparation
Store lyophilised at -20°C. Reconstituted solution should be stored at 4°C and used within 14 days. Nasal spray solution: store at 4°C and use within 30 days.
For intranasal use: reconstitute with sterile saline to desired concentration. Common: 5mg vial with 5ml saline gives 1000mcg/ml. Use a nasal atomiser for delivery. For subcutaneous: reconstitute with bacteriostatic water.
