Bremelanotide
Also known as: PT-141, Vyleesi
Overview
Bremelanotide is a melanocortin receptor agonist developed from melanotan-related research. It is clinically known as Vyleesi in the US for acquired, generalized hypoactive sexual desire disorder in premenopausal women, while non-prescription peptide versions remain research-use products.
How it works
Activates central melanocortin receptors, particularly MC4R, involved in sexual arousal pathways. Unlike PDE5 inhibitors, its effects are centrally mediated rather than primarily vascular. It may also interact with MC1R and other melanocortin receptors, contributing to flushing and pigmentation-related effects.
Primary uses
- Sexual function research
- Melanocortin receptor research
- Arousal signalling
- Libido research
Storage and preparation
Store lyophilised research material at -20°C or 2-8°C away from light. Approved prefilled products should be stored according to manufacturer labelling. Reconstituted research solution should be refrigerated and protected from light.
Research vials are reconstituted with bacteriostatic water or sterile water. Add diluent slowly and gently swirl until dissolved. Do not shake vigorously.
